Wholesale Corvette Market Report: How Will Our Collection Of C8s and C7s Perform This Week?

[1/16/2025 Edition] Today, we have nearly every year of the C8 Corvette represented, along with a couple of interesting C7s. How many sold?

It’s amazing how fast time flies as we enter CorvSport’s 24th exclusive wholesale market report. If you want to be dialed in on the wholesale Corvette market, you are in the right place! As always, thank you for being a part of our community. You may remember that as the series progressed, we moved from the Florida market to Texas. After eight months in Florida and a 30% sales ratio, I switched things up to see if the Texas market would yield better results. To date, Texas has not disappointed–you can view the full archives below. [Author’s Note: This article is FREE and not behind a paywall. The top two most remarkable Texas auctions occurred in December. First, our special Z06 special edition yielded a 50% sales ratio. Then, there was that historic showing of classic Corvettes that showed up at the Dallas auction–historic because rarely does a Corvette collection of this caliber show up at a dealer-only auction. But even more remarkable was the 100% sales ratio–yes, every antique Corvette we featured sold! Here are those two features for easy access.

A Quick Review Of The Process:

In preparation for each installment, I start a list of Corvettes from that week’s runlist that catch my eye. As a retired owner/operator of a used car dealership, I’ll use my 17 years of experience (and industry access) to give you insights into the market. My search is focused on the nation’s largest dealer-only wholesale auction, and all the Corvettes featured are from the Florida market. Corvettes end up at a dealer-only wholesale auction for many reasons, but most are trade-ins that the dealer decided not to retail on their lot. Some may also be repossessions or coming off leases. It’s also common for dealers to dump problem (or slow-selling) units at an auction.

For Fun (and Insights):

Compare the MMR (estimated wholesale value) to the actual hammer price (if sold). It’s also interesting to compare the wholesale purchase price (if it sells) to the Cox Automotive estimated retail value, as this will give you an idea of the margins used-car dealerships are working with.

Top 7: Wholesale Dealer-Only Auction Activity Report

#7

2014 C7 Stingray Coupe 2LT

62,497 Miles

Condition Report: 1.4/5.0

Announcements: AS-IS–ENGINE MODS, structural damage

Autocheck History Report: 2 owners, 2 accidents

MMR: $24,400

(MMR=estimated wholesale value, based on vehicle, miles, condition, and recent auction sales)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: $43,000 (13,372 average miles)
  • 6 Months Ago: $37,400 (36,794 mi)
  • Last Year: $37,300 (27,056 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $29,600

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: Sold for $17,000

(Insights: As they used to say, there is an ass for every seat! I’d say this was well bought, but an “AS-IS” sale means there is no arbitration for high ticket items like engine or transmission problems.)

#6

2019 C7 Stingray Coupe 3LT

13,034 Miles

Condition Report: 4.2/5.0

Announcements: Minor Carfax caution

Autocheck History Report: 3 owners, 1 accident

MMR: $43,400

(MMR=estimated wholesale value, based on vehicle, miles, condition, and recent auction sales)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: Not available
  • 6 Months Ago: Not available
  • Last Year: Not available

Estimated Retail Value: $49,400

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: NO SALE

(Insights: The accident on the history report and Carfax caution announcement likely scared bidders away. There are too many nice C7s out there without a story.)

#5

2020 C8 Stingray Coupe 1LT

44,020 Miles

Condition Report: 3.8/5.0

Announcements: AS-IS, no arbitration

Autocheck History Report: 2 owners, 0 accidents

MMR: $48,700

(MMR=estimated wholesale value, based on vehicle, miles, condition, and recent auction sales)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: $55,000 (22,771 average miles)
  • 6 Months Ago: $59,300 (23,603 mi)
  • Last Year: $61,000 (17,643 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $51,300

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: Sold for $53,500

(Insights: This was a surprising sale, given the AS-IS disclaimer, with no recourse for a bad engine or transmission. And the purchasing dealer paid way over MMR.)

#4

2021 C8 Stingray Coupe 3LT

11,886 Miles

Condition Report: 4.6/5.0

Announcements: ALT frame

Autocheck History Report: 1 owner, 0 accidents

  • 6 Months Ago: $69,000 (13,356 mi)
  • Last Year: $70,700 (6,592 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $66,800

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: NO SALE

(Insights: Despite being “resell red,” this nice C8 failed to sell, likely because of the altered frame announcement. It’s a buyer’s market.)

#3

2023 C8 Stingray Convertible 3LT

33 Miles

Condition Report: 5.0/5.0

Announcements:

Autocheck History Report: 1 owner, 0 accidents

MMR: $76,100

  • Last Year: $85,300 (5,219 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $82,100

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: Sold for $77,250

(Insights: This Stingray was a re-run from one of the more successful sellers, GiveMeTheVin.com. It’s good she is finally going to a retail lot where an enthusiast can enjoy this low-mileage C8.)

(Insights: We haven’t covered many 2025 models, so it was good to see this one sell.)

Summary: Given that we are coming out of the holiday season and in the “dead of winter,” I’d say that our 57% sales ratio is pretty good. I’ll do another special episode on the C8 Z06s if I can get a good collection–that’s going to be a fun market to watch as 2025 marches on. Thanks for joining CorvSport today, and we’ll see you in two weeks!
