A Nearly 200 MPH Vette
The 2020 Corvette Stingray is an extremely impressive car. While a lot of people are excited about the prospect of the upcoming high-performance versions of the car, there’s still a lot of information to come out about the 2020 Corvette C8 Stingray. Recently at the National Corvette Museum’s 25th Anniversary, Chevy’s team showed an hour-long presentation about the car. Within that presentation was a video of the C8 doing a top speed run.
The video is shot from inside the car. You can see the driver and someone sitting next to him with a laptop open and recording stats as the car flies down the racetrack. As the car rounds a corner and hits a straight it makes it top speed attempt. The speed? 194 mph. That’s wicked fast. So, now we know that the 2020 Corvette Stingray will hit a 0-60 mph time in just three seconds (less with the Z51 package) and do a top speed of 194 mph.
If the base model of the C8 Corvette can hit nearly 200 mph, can you imagine the top speed for the upcoming Z06, ZR1, or the rumored hybrid? The hybrid is supposed to make about 1,000 hp. It should be able more than just challenge the exotic supercar and hypercar competitors from European automakers. The performance numbers from those cars will come as they near the end of development. We can’t wait. You can watch the full presentation or just check out the top speed run at 1:00:35 below.
