The ground-breaking seventh-generation Corvette ZR1 needs little introduction. With 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque from its supercharged LT5, the reigning “King of the Hill” is still making waves in the supercar circles. Sure, the 2025 Corvette ZR1, with its tarmac-tearing 1,064 horsepower, is about to steal the crown, but you won’t find any enthusiast who has forgotten about the C7 ZR1. And the collectors have certainly taken notice, with an interesting dynamic of low-mileage examples regularly entering the market (you can find those in our Garage Queens features).

Oddly, despite how remarkable the C7 ZR1 was when introduced, I often still hear about dealer discounts when she was new. This was likely due to the excitement surrounding the introduction of the revolutionary mid-engine eighth-generation Corvette. The C7 ZR1 introduction also came around a time that I dubbed the “Covid Phenomenon,” which at first caused enthusiasts to back off of large purchases due to the uncertainty the pandemic brought.

Then, the Corvette market started rising considerably, as a perfect storm was brewingIn short, the brand-new mid-engine C8 created unprecedented demand, which, in combination with lots of money being pumped into the system, led to increased discretionary spending on all toys. Top this off with supply chain issues (which caused production for the C8 to be halted at times), and the result was a crazy ride for us enthusiasts.

As the love affair with the C8 settled down, many enthusiasts who longed for the last front-engine Corvette available with a manual started to gravitate back to the C7 and rekindled their love, and that’s when things really started to get interesting for the C7 ZR1! This shift also contributed to the C7 depreciating slower than the C8. Our founder and contributor, Scott Kolecki, just wrote an excellent piece on this dynamic, which is available here if you’d like to take a deeper dive into this bizarre occurrence.

Our methodology for market values is straightforward. We believe “comps” (i.e., previous sales) are the best measure of market value at any given time, so we will use the top auction platforms—Mecum and Bring a Trailer — to gather our market snapshots.
