In a touching story, a piece of America’s favorite pastime was traded for America’s favorite sports car. This cool Corvette story is beginning to seep into the crevices of the internet and even landed over in a popular baseball card forum. We’ll get to some of the memorable comments by the baseball memorabilia experts in a moment, but let’s get to first base and find out just how this widowed lady came to trade some valuable baseball cards for her dream eighth-generation Corvette. The story unfolded on the SportsCardsNonsense podcast, which cold-called Kurt Martiny, the Chevy salesman who delivered the dream Corvette to the widow Susan. The first question from the podcaster: “Is it true somebody actually gave you a couple of baseball cards for a Corvette?” The salesman quickly replied, “Yes sir, it is.”
As the story goes, Susan approached Kurt, looking to turn in a lease vehicle, and said she would really love a yellow Corvette, which he just happened to have! Kurt went on to say Susan’s late husband had a lot of sports memorabilia and that she had some cards she was thinking about getting rid of. So they got ahold of Indy Card Exchange (more on that soon), and after some hustling (perhaps literally), the deal was set up. According to Kurt, the cards paid for 100% of the vehicle, which was an out-the-door price of “roughly $80,000.” Kurt goes on to remark, “I gave her one hell of a deal on the vehicle just because I loved the whole thing.”

The salesman who was the conduit for Susan’s dream shared his sentiments on a Facebook post by the card dealer, which has now reached 1400+ reactions and 444+ comments.

- Cliffs: The card dealer had been in contact with Susan since early 2016 and kept in touch with her as the years passed. In January of this year, Susan reached out to the card dealer, indicating she had her sights on her dream car! The card dealer finishes by commenting, “After some discussions and negotiation, Susan and I made a deal to exchange her beautiful Mantle and Jackie cards and a few others for a brand new yellow Corvette.”
The Dream Dismantling Begins: There is one in every bunch, and the card dealer’s Facebook post was full of them.
Apparently, trading baseball cards is serious business, and this lady left some money on the table. Nearly all the comments I scanned through had the same sentiment–she got ripped off. But we Corvette enthusiasts are not letting that taint the dream–HER dream.
