One of only 20 L88 Convertibles produced in 1968, this British Green over Saddle Tan Corvette is a prime example of Zora Arkus-Duntov’s groundbreaking “homologation special.” Developed as a racecar for Can-Am, FIA, and NASCAR, the L88 was equipped with an underrated 430-horsepower big-block V8. In reality, it delivered 550 horsepower, powered by a 427-cubic-inch engine featuring forged internals, aluminum heads, and an open-plenum intake manifold.
The L88 package was a comprehensive suite of racing enhancements, including heavy-duty J56 brakes, F41 suspension, Positraction differential, and a cowl-induction hood. It retained its original date-coded M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed transmission to handle the power.
Delivered new to Harte Chevrolet in Meriden, Connecticut, this L88 has a complete ownership history and is listed in Drew Papsun’s and Jonathan Herrick’s L88 registries. The car has undergone meticulous restorations, including a return to its original color combination.
In 2022, this Corvette earned NCRS Second Flight honors and was displayed at LeMay—America’s Car Museum in 2023-2024. While the original engine was replaced, the current 427 block has been restamped to match, retaining the car’s period-correct performance specifications.
Offered at RM Sotheby’s Arizona 2025 auction with an estimated value of up to $375,000, this L88 represents an extraordinary opportunity to own a pivotal piece of Corvette and American sports car history.
