No doubt, if you’ve been in any forums or Facebook pages regularly, you’ll know that talking with other enthusiasts about oil brands and oil filter brands can lead to passionate, heated discussions. I’ve always been a Mobile 1 guy for both, and simply saying that in some social media circles could potentially start a charged debate. Coincidentally, one of the more heated debates is WIX versus Mobile 1, but we’ll get to that in a moment. What seems even more polarizing (and confusing) is the USA versus foreign-made debate, so we’ll also touch on that. [Author’s Note: This article is FREE and not behind a paywall. In today’s CorvSport Curates feature, we will list the most popular oil filter brands recommended by enthusiasts from one of the largest C5 Corvette dedicated groups on Facebook. With over 60,000 members, C5 Vette’s has a wealth of knowledge (and opinions). This recent discussion started when one member wanted to give the vast community a heads-up on deceptive/misleading advertising for one of the more popular oil filter brands, WIX. Along with ranking the most recommended brands, we’ll give you some insights into oil filters made in the USA versus foreign-made ones. Now, let’s get to the post that started it all.
A WIX Warning: Misleading Advertising With WIX Oil Filters
- C5 Vette’s member Daniel T. paid for and wanted what was advertised, a premium WIX filter made in the USA, but instead received one made in Mexico. To add insult to injury, David remarks that the Mexican-made version uses cheaper cellulose media instead of what he expected, synthetic media. The post that started the insightful discussion.
And Daniel had the receipts–what he ordered.
What Daniel received.
When questioned about the nuances of the “Country of Origin” wording, Daniel did some legwork.
Remember how the country was blanked out after the “MADE IN” on the Amazon listing above?
Well, Daniel did some research on that as well. The results scream “shady!”
Where do you go if you only want “Made in the USA?”
Daniel has been on top of the research, and this is his recommendation.
The Most Popular Oil Filter Brands For Your C5 Corvette
As the Corvette community often does, Daniels’s word of caution led to an insightful discussion from the group of hands-on Corvette enthusiasts. These recommendations are fully credited to the members of the C5 Vette’s Facebook page. Our CorvSport Curates series is designed to help other enthusiasts who would not find this knowledge under normal circumstances–think of us as a digital encyclopedia, bringing bits of essential data to a larger audience. Now, without further ado, let’s dive into the top-recommended filters for your C5 Corvette!

Other Notes From The Community:
- Daniel’s research indicated that if you want Made in the USA, the two options are FRAM and Champion.
- WIX used to make NAPA Gold filters, but NAPA moved away from WIX when quality started to drop. O’Reilly now has an exclusive deal with WIX. Another member states he works for O’Reilly, and WIX quality hasn’t dropped off, but that WIX just didn’t want to work with NAPA any longer.
- AC Delco is made in China and rebrands the cheapest possible parts. One member states, “Take one apart, and you will be appalled.”
- Daniel commented that Mobil 1 filters are made in Mexico by MANN+HUMMEL. The American company Champion Labs stopped making Mobil 1 filters a few years ago.
