That’s Wicked Fast
We recently reported on the HPE 1000 Corvette ZR1’s dyno performance that showed 905 hp makes its way to the wheels. Well, now you can watch that car in action on the drag strip. The company’s modified ZR1 Corvette manages to clock a 9.79-second quarter mile run in the video shared below.
If you’re not familiar with quarter mile times, that’s extremely quick for any car. The HPE 1000 Corvette ZR1’s goal was likely under 10 seconds because Hennessey wants to be able to say it has a 9-second car on its hands with the HPE 1000 Corvette ZR1.
The car does a proper job of warming up the tires with a big smokey burnout. From there, the HPE 1000 Corvette ZR1 lines up, lets the smoke from the tires drift away, and then rips one down the sticky-looking dragstrip.
The car gets a pretty good launch despite not using launch control and then it’s off to the races. It lets those 1000 horses run. In the end, the car manages 139 mph at the time listed above. To put that into perspective, the Dodge Demon is capable of a 9.65 quarter mile time. However, that’s using launch control, and the car is built specifically for the dragstrip. This Corvette could dominate on the racetrack, too.
