We all know that John Hennessey likes power. A lot. So, it only makes sense that he is developing a kit for the Corvette C8.
However, to properly gauge the differences that his kits will have against a bone stock Corvette C8, some…. “scientific” testing needed to be done.
It really doesn’t look like much of a challenge on paper. Supercharged 5.2 liter Voodoo V8 with 760 snakebitten horses against naturally aspirate 6.2 liter LT2 V8 with 495 rampaging horses.
However, from a standing start, and all the way up to 120 MPH, the Corvette actually holds the lead before the longer gearing on the GT500 allows its superior power to get on the ground.
The story is different, however, when the test starts from a 40 MPH roll. The GT500 is already in its powerband and easily leaves the Corvette behind.
From these tests, one can assume that Hennessey will be working on a system that both allows the stock launch control to be used, as well as a system that, in the right gear at 30 to 40 MPH, will translate to being in the power band and ready to embarrass Mustangs.
Here’s hoping that we see a proper, production-ready kit soon, because this is starting to get exciting! And again, all in the name of “science!”
