Exterior and Interior

Let’s begin by taking a bit of a deep dive into the fabrication of the car itself.  Based on the BMW V12 LMR Le Mans prototype racer, this 2002 Carter Le Mans Prototype Corvette Z06 features a low-air cockpit integrated into a low, sweeping body.  Every panel on this car has been custom fabricated to create a contour that is completely unique to this build.    Although the car utilizes the same wheelbase as the original Corvette Z06, this custom body sits approximately three inches wider than the donor Corvette’s original body.  Each of the car’s panels are constructed of fiberglass that has been reinforced with vinyl ester resin. Beneath the fiberglass exterior exists a kevlar firewall just ahead of the open-air cockpit.   The car was painted in 2013 and features a functional rear wing.

The car rides on a set of forged aluminum rims from WELD Wheels – a Leader in Racing and Maximum Performance Wheels.  Each is wrapped in Nitto tires.  The car also utilizes a custom nose lift that is operated by remote.  When activated, the car’s nose raises approximately four inches, helping to ensure its can easily navigate over any speed bumps or other obstructions that the car’s operator may encounter.

Engine and Transmission

Beneath the car’s hood resides a modified LS6 V8 engine.  The original 5.7-liter engine received some subtle-yet-significant modifications including a set of long tube headers, aftermarket catalytic converters, and a cold-air intake system.  All told, the car’s engine has been bolstered from 405 to 455 horsepower.  Moreover, the engine was repositioned approximately eight-inches rearward from its original placement in the donor car chassis to aid in balancing the car.  The torque tube was shortened accordingly.

Engine power is delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This Le Mans Race Car Corvette retains its original Z06 fuel tank and now rides on LG Motorsports springs and shocks with coil-over dampers. Stopping power is managed b disc brakes at all four corners and steering control comes through a squared-off race-style Sparco steering wheel in the open-air cockpit.
