After the Corvette’s redesign in 1968, 1969 brought a series of thoughtful refinements to the model. The Sting Ray name was altered, appearing as a single word on the front fender, and the door-opening mechanism was improved by integrating the previous year’s finger hold with a new design, eliminating the separate thumb release button.
The side vent trim was also updated. Additional changes included the introduction of a steering column ignition lock, 8-inch wheels, headlight washers, a reduced 15-inch steering wheel, and map pockets added to the passenger-side dashboard.
While these adjustments enhanced the car’s functionality and appeal, no major modifications were made under the hood aside from the introduction of a new 350 CI small block V8. The big block engines remained in high demand, with over 10,000 buyers opting for the L36 427/390 HP V8.
