Introduced in October 1962, the second-generation Corvette featured futuristic styling rooted in Peter Brock’s 1957 sketches. Created by Larry Shinoda and Peter Brock under Bill Mitchell, the Corvette Sting Ray was the first to undergo wind tunnel testing. It featured a chisel nose with hidden headlights, fastback roof-integrated doors, and the distinctive split rear window that defined the model.
With a ball-joint front suspension and a simple yet innovative independent rear suspension, the Sting Ray evolved into a true sports car, gaining international racing credibility. Continuously improved from 1963 to 1967, it offered various powertrain options with strong performance. Demand was so high that Corvette sales hit a record 21,513 in 1963, requiring a second production shift to meet orders.
Offered for sale on Bring A Trailer, this car is one of 10,594 split-window coupes built for the Sting Ray’s debut year. Restored under prior ownership, it has a matching-numbers 327/300 HP V8 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.
Finished in dark blue over dark blue vinyl, it includes 15″ turbine-style wheels with knock-off spinners, an AM/FM radio, and concealed headlights. This 1963 split-window Corvette is a rare and highly original example of one of the most iconic Corvette models.
