Drive Your Corvette To Work Day!

Corvettes at Mid-America Motorworks

June 29th 2018 Marks the 18 Annual “Drive Your Corvette To Work Day!”

Summer is in full swing which means that Corvettes across the nation (and around the world) have come out of winter storage and are once more hitting the open road.  While many owners save their cruising for a lazy Saturday afternoon, it is likely that you’ll see an increased number of Corvettes on America’s highways and by-ways today.

You see, Friday, June 29, 2018 marks the 18th anniversary of the official “Drive Your Corvette To Work Day” Holiday, and Corvette owners from all across the land have been pulling their prized sports car out and celebrating the day by driving their Corvette to work!

But why have a national “Corvette Holiday?”  The answer is really pretty simple.

On June 30th 1953, the first Corvette rolled off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan, and almost immediately gave birth to an American icon.  Since that day, more than 1.6 million Corvettes have been produced.  To say the birth of the Corvette was “revolutionary” is an understatement – it changed the landscape of the American sports car forever and captured the hearts and imaginations of people for generations.

Okay, but how did “Drive Your Corvette To Work Day” got it’s start?

To commemorate the birth of the Corvette – and to celebrate its heritage – Mike Yager, founder of Mid America Motorworks started the tradition of “Drive Your Corvette to Work Day” back in 2001.   The tradition encourages Corvette owners to driver their Corvette to their place of employment on the Friday closest to June 30th (June 29th in this case)!

“We understand why many owners consider their Corvette to be a special car and only drive it occasionally,” said Mike Yager, “but we think driving your Corvette to work, at least one day a year, is an excellent way to demonstrate just how popular Corvettes are and it is a chance to ‘Save the Wave’  (a tradition where Corvette owners wave to each other in passing) and keep the Corvette spirit alive!”

Thousands of Corvette owners have already joined in the celebration over the years, so, along with Mid America Motorworks, the National Corvette Museum, and others, Corvsport.com is encouraging all Corvette owners to get in on the fun!  It’s a great way for your co-workers to see firsthand just what is so special about the Corvette, plus it’s a wonderful excuse to get your car out of the garage and give it some exercise on the road.
