While the actual temperature was in the lower 60s (jacket weather for Floridians!), the sun was beaming and shined down on enthusiasts as they enjoyed Mecum’s season-opening Super Bowl of collector car auctions. Mecum has always been a special place for Corvette enthusiasts, but 2024 proved to be one of the most spectacular years for our beloved iconic ‘Vette. We’ve included our CorvSport Mecum tracker from last year so you can see how crazy Corvette sales were at the “undisputed” champion of collector car auctions. Will 2025 bring similar results? You read that correctly! An incredible 1,194 Corvettes hammered off to new owners last year at Mecum. As we are seeing some of the Corvette markets cool off (notably the C8 Z06), how will Mecum fare in 2025? This year, 477 Corvettes were offered to enthusiasts and collectors, which was down 50 from 2024. Can we make up for the reduced number of Vettes with a higher sales percentage? It will be hard to beat Kissimmee 2024’s 72% sales ratio!

1957 Corvette Big Brake Airbox

Sold For: $715,000

  • Factory Big Brake Airbox Corvette, 1 of only 43 produced for 1957
  • RPO 579E fresh air Airbox intake: This special plenum intake fed air through a duct on the driver’s side fender well into a special filter to the fuel injection unit
  • RPO 684 heavy-duty brakes and suspension: This package included special front and rear springs and shocks, a heavier front stabilizer bar, quick steering adapter, metallic brake facings, finned brake drums, fresh air ducting to rear brakes, and “elephant ear” front brake scoops
  • Corvettes ordered with these two options were essentially factory-built racers
  • Bloomington Gold Certified
  • Extensive restoration completed by Corvette Repair, Inc.
