Corvette Of The Day: 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The Corvette ZR1 defies easy categorization. It’s a dual-personality machine, transforming from a savage racetrack dominator to a luxuriously smooth highway cruiser on demand. This magic is achieved through the ingenious Magnetic Ride Control suspension.

This cutting-edge system utilizes special shock absorbers containing magnetized iron particles. A computer constantly monitors the car’s movements and adjusts the firmness of these shocks in mere milliseconds. This allows the ZR1 to maintain a plush, comfortable ride on even the smoothest roads, while simultaneously firming up for unwavering stability during aggressive cornering.

For 2012, the ZR1 returned once again to the lineup and served as the top-of-the-line Corvette that year with its monstrous 6.2L LS9 V8 engine, boosted by a four-lobe, twin-throat Eaton supercharger for a staggering 638 horsepower.

This, combined with a relatively light curb weight of 3,333 lbs, translates to exhilarating performance: 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, a 205 mph top speed, and a quarter-mile conquered in a mere 11.5 seconds at 129 mph.
