In 2008, Chevrolet introduced yet another legendary addition to its lineage of special-edition Corvettes with the introduction of the Z06 427 Limited Edition Coupe. Limited strictly to 505 units, a number mirroring the potent 505 horsepower output of its 427 CI engine, this commemorative model pays homage to the iconic Mark IV big-block engine that made its debut in 1965.
The first Mark IV engine boasted an impressive 425 horsepower, displacing 396 CI. However, in a bold move in 1966, Chevrolet bumped up the displacement to meet the official NASCAR limit of 427 CI, thereby etching a legendary figure that continues to conjure images of the mighty midyear big-block Corvette.
Under the hood of this Z06 427 Limited Edition resides an LS7 7.0-liter V8 engine, delivering a formidable 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque in its factory configuration. However, with enhancements including a supercharger and other modifications, this C6 Z06 is reputed to unleash a staggering 685 horsepower and 777 lb-ft of torque, channeled to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.
