In 2003, the Corvette marked its 50th anniversary with a special edition finished in a distinct Anniversary Red, a color that took considerable time to perfect. This striking hue was paired with Champagne wheels and a Shale-colored interior.
The Anniversary Edition featured a 5.7L LS1 V-8 engine and an automatic transmission with overdrive. It also offered the F55 suspension, enabling impressive performance metrics such as a 0-60 MPH time of about 5 seconds, a top speed of around 160 MPH, and the ability to stop from 60 MPH in just 120 feet.
The 50th Anniversary package created a high-performance, unique Corvette perfectly suited for special roles, including serving as the 2003 Le Mans Pace Car. Only two of these special pace cars were built to meet the demands of the world’s most challenging 24-hour endurance race.
