When it launched in 1990, the 375 HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 astonished both the media and the public. With extensive upgrades, the ZR1 elevated the Corvette into the realm of supercars, standing alongside the Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Diablo, and Porsche 911 Turbo.
In 1993, the ZR-1’s LT5 engine received a power boost to 405 HP, thanks to modifications to the cylinder heads and valve train. This year marked not only the fourth year of ZR1 production but also Corvette’s 40th Anniversary. To celebrate, a 40th Anniversary Edition package was offered for all Corvettes.
This package featured Ruby Red Metallic paint, a matching Ruby Red leather interior with leather sport seats and special 40th Anniversary headrest embroidery, a power driver’s seat, special wheel center caps, and 40th Anniversary emblems.
The $1,445 Anniversary Edition option could be combined with the $31,683 ZR1 package, with only 245 produced, bringing the total cost to about $70,000, which is roughly $146,000 today.
