This 1971 Chevrolet Corvette was equipped with the factory-installed ‘ZR2’ package, a $1,747 option—over 30% of the Corvette’s base price—designed specifically for racing enthusiasts.
The comprehensive package included several key features, such as the most potent engine available—the LS6 big block, conservatively rated at 425 horsepower—a Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” manual transmission, heavy-duty power disc brakes and battery, and a special suspension system with upgraded springs, shocks, and stabilizer bars.
Equally significant was what the package omitted: power windows, power steering, rear defroster, radio, alarm system, wheel covers, and air conditioning—all sacrificed for weight reduction. While 188 Corvettes were equipped with the LS6 engine in 1971, only 12 opted for the ZR2 package—10 roadsters and two coupes.
