Corvette Of The Day: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette A-Production/IMSA L88 Race Car

In 1972, Fred Kepler converted this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette into a racing machine powered by an L88 engine, intended to participate in various racing competitions such as FIA, IMSA, and SCCA. Bob Sharp and John Orr were co-drivers of this C3 during the three seasons it was campaigned in SCCA/Trans-Am, IMSA GTO, and FIA. The car was restored in 2000 to its original Kepler-era livery.

The Corvette originally came with an L71 Tri-Power 427ci V8, the car was modified in 1972 with a race-prepared L88 427ci V8 featuring 12.5:1 cylinder compression, L88 aluminum heads, and a correct L88 air cleaner assembly paired to a four-speed M-22 “Rock Crusher” manual transmission.
