The Corvette firmly established itself as America’s Sports Car, winning the hearts of enthusiasts nationwide. Its iconic design and performance-oriented chassis made it a popular choice among customizers seeking exciting projects. Despite the Corvette’s already impressive capabilities, customizers often upgraded them to modernize drivability and enhance performance.
One such custom Corvette is the 1959 model featured here, meticulously built by Cale Kern Hot Rods. It underwent a professional transformation, including a custom frame, front suspension, and a triangulated 4-bar rear end. The body received extensive customizations, such as brushed-finish tucked bumpers, bespoke trim, flush-fit headlights and tail lights, and a stunning Axalta Magnetic Metallic finish expertly applied by Jack Davis at Bedford Body and Paint.
Under the hood resides a 454 CI LSX engine adorned with vintage-style Corvette valve covers and a Borla 8-stack fuel injection system. Power is harnessed by a Bowler Legend 5-speed manual transmission. To improve performance and handling, the chassis has been upgraded with Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes featuring 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers, RideTech shocks, and custom 18- and 19-inch Forgeline wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
Inside the cabin, passengers are greeted with luxurious bright red leather upholstery skillfully crafted by Bryan Barlow at Interiors by Ed. The custom stereo system, complete with a subwoofer, provides an immersive audio experience. This Corvette is equipped with a removable hardtop and features a custom hard-surfaced trunk compartment.
Notably, this exceptional Corvette was a finalist for the 2020 Goodguys/PPG Street Machine of the Year award in Des Moines, a testament to its outstanding quality and craftsmanship.
