The E-Ray is the first-ever hybrid Corvette, pairing a mid-mounted 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle and an electronic limited-slip differential to power the rear wheels. Meanwhile, the front wheels are driven by an electric motor connected to a 1.1-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery.
This setup delivers a combined output of 655 horsepower and 595 lb-ft of torque. Its performance is stunning, launching from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds—making it the fastest Corvette to date, edging out even the legendary Z06 by 0.01 seconds.
In a recent video by Drive.com.au on YouTube, the Corvette E-Ray was put to the test against a track-spec Camaro ZL1. That Camaro Supercar features a 5.7-liter V8 producing 600 horsepower to the rear wheels and weighs in at just 1,335 kg, giving it a theoretically superior power-to-weight ratio.
Despite that, the E-Ray outperformed the Camaro dramatically. Though the Camaro initially leapt ahead, the E-Ray’s electric torque and all-wheel-drive traction quickly put it well ahead in the drag race. Later in the same video, the team also compared the C8 Z06 with the Camaro ZL1 on track. The Z06 didn’t disappoint—it showcased its prowess by setting an unofficial production car lap record at Queensland Raceway in Australia.
