A Mystery That Must Be Solved
The new 2020 C8 Corvette is now finally here, and it’s a revolutionary car for the brand. While the reveal was enlightening, there are still many questions left unanswered. One of the big ones is, “How fast will it go?” Chevy says the answer to this is still a big question mark. The company hasn’t tested this yet. At least, that’s what the GM President, Mark Reuss, told reporters, according to GM Authority.
If GM needs anyone to test the top speed of the C8 Corvette, we definitely volunteer any member of our staff. We have a suspicion that Chevy has already tested this and has a number that it knows is the top speed. However, the company is likely not ready to release that number yet. Maybe they’re planning a big reveal for the top speed. Maybe they just want to take a few more attempts before releasing the speed to the public.
The C7 base model Stingray was able to sprint all the way up to 187 mph, according to GM Authority. We would imagine the C8 Corvette can go at least that fast. If Chevy wants to make a statement about the Corvette, though, it should try to get the car a higher top speed rating than the old car. We’d love to see a 190 mph official top speed, but until Chevy releases the information all we can do is speculate.
