AutoTopiaLA, a popular YouTube channel known for showcasing classic muscle car builds, takes a different route this time by featuring a remarkable creation. Host Shawn Davis pays a visit to Duke Langley from Duke’s Auto Plus, an Autocross veteran who has invested significant time, effort, and resources into building the ultimate C5 Corvette race car.
For starters, a stock 2002 C5 Z06 was already a formidable performer. Its LS6 engine, derived from the LS1, underwent extensive revisions to deliver 405 horsepower and 400 pound-feet (542 Nm) of torque in later models. With a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission, it could achieve a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 3.9 seconds.
However, this customized C5 Z06 takes things to another level. It has been fitted with a de-stroked LS7 engine, capable of reaching an impressive 8,500 RPM. Duke has also incorporated Stage Five dry-sump lubrication with an air separator. According to him, the engine produces over 700 horsepower at the flywheel, which translates to around 650 horsepower at the rear wheels.
Words alone can’t fully describe this exceptional track machine, so we highly recommend watching the video below for a firsthand experience.
