This Dallara-Corvette Daytona prototype (Chassis 004), now up for auction on Bring a Trailer, is a proven championship-winning race car. Built by Dallara as the fourth and final DP-01 chassis for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, it was originally delivered to Wayne Taylor Racing and competed under the SunTrust Racing name from 2008 to 2011. During that time, it secured seven victories and 23 podium finishes across 41 races.
In 2012, the car was upgraded to third-generation Daytona Prototype specifications with Corvette C6-style bodywork and went on to win the 2013 Rolex Series championship, claiming five race wins that season. The Daytona prototype class was known for its fierce competition, featuring four chassis builders and three engine suppliers vying for victory over a 12-race season that included major endurance events like the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen.
After its professional racing days, the car was kept as a backup and later sold in 2016. The current owner acquired it in 2018 and has since raced it in Ferrari Club events and Masters Historic Racing, notably finishing 6th at Circuit of the Americas in 2019.
The car is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter Chevrolet LS9 V8 engine built by ECR, delivering around 550–600 horsepower. It’s mated to an Xtrac 5-speed sequential transaxle and equipped with Brembo brakes, pushrod suspension, and staggered BBS wheels wrapped in Michelin slicks. Its exterior features a carbon-fiber-style livery with orange Velocity Worldwide graphics reminiscent of its 2013 title-winning look. Inside, the cockpit includes a 6-point harness, MoTeC display, and a fire suppression system.
