C3 production volume started strongly in 1968 with 28,566 cars built, with 18,630 convertibles and 9,936 coupes. Production volumes grew quickly in the second year with coupe volume overtaking convertibles with 22,129 units made while convertibles were 16,633. In 1976 Chevy stopped making the convertibles and was coupe only. Volumes were over 45,000 units in 1976 through 1979 when they peaked at 53,807 units. C3 production volumes fell from there, down to 40,614 units in 1980 and 40,606 in 1981. The final year of production unsurprisingly saw volumes fall to 25,407 C3 Corvettes as buyers waited for the new C4 Corvette to be launched.
