C2 Corvette VIN Decoder
The C1 Corvette VIN carried over into the C2 generation Corvette and kept it that way for the 1963 and 1964 model year cars. In 1965 the VIN configuration was change to 13 digits (instead of 12 digits) with the basic information remaining the same. The basic information was still shown including year, body style and order in the production sequence. The 3rd digit now signified a V8 engine, but not which one.

The VIN on a Corvette has always been stamped on a plate, although the location of that plate has varied over the years. In 1963 and 1964 the VIN was spot welded to body hinge brace under the glove box. 1965 to 1967 were similar to the 1963 to 1964 models that were spot welded to the body hinge brace under the glove box with the major difference being that the 1965 – 19767s were riveted instead in the same location.

C2 Corvette VIN Decoder (1963 – 1964)
In 1960 Chevy changed the Corvette VIN. They went from 10 digits up to a 12 digit VIN. The added 2 digits distinguish between coupe and convertible body style. There was also a change in the designation of the Corvette series by Chevy to 08. The digit order was also changed slightly. These changes carried over into the C2 generation for 1963 and 1964 model years.
C2 Corvette VIN Explanation (1963 – 1964)
Digit 1 – Model Year: A one-digit model year. “3” for 1963, “4” for 1964.
Digit 2 & 3 – Series/Model: A two-digit number which is General Motors identification/series code for Chevrolet Corvette. “08” for Corvette.
Digit 4 & 5 – Body Style: “37” for Coupe, “67” for Convertible.
Digit 6 – Assembly Plant: “S” for St. Louis for 1963 to 1964.
Digit 7 through 12 – Production Number: This is the six-digit build sequence number. In 1963 through 1964 that number started at 100001. Each new Corvette produced being assigned the next number in sequence. Last sequence number should equal total production for that year in almost all cases.

In 1965 the Corvette VIN configuration was changed from the earlier 1960-1964 format. There were now 13 characters, although the basic information remained the same as previous years, just rearranged slightly in their order. Digit 1 – Make/Manufacturer: A one-digit make designation. “1” for Chevrolet
