Broad Arrow To Auction An Award-Winning 1966 C2 Corvette

Broad Arrow Group will auction this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray 427/425 Convertible at The Amelia Auction on March 8, 2025, estimated to be worth up to $220,000.

Following the Corvette Sting Ray’s 1962 debut, chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov continuously introduced high-performance options reinforcing the model’s racing pedigree. The second-generation Corvette dominated showroom floors and racetracks with its independent rear suspension and potent powertrain options.

By 1965, Chevrolet’s new Mark IV 396 cubic-inch big-block V8 signified a new era in Corvette performance. Engineered by Dick Keinath, this powerplant evolved from the Z-11 “Mystery Motor” that disrupted NASCAR in 1963. The 1966 Corvette saw its big-block displacement increase to 427 cubic inches, with the L72 variant officially rated at 425 horsepower—downgraded from an initially advertised 450 horsepower due to insurance concerns.

This award-winning Corvette, recognized with the prestigious NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence, comes with its original 1967 dealer purchase paperwork. It was originally equipped with the high-performance L72 “IP” 425-horsepower Turbo-Jet big block engine and a four-speed Muncie manual transmission.

A meticulous, photo-documented restoration has earned it multiple NCRS Top Flight awards. Once part of the Otis Chandler Collection, its engine pad stamping and trim tag have been authenticated by Corvette expert Al Grenning. Additional features include dual side exhaust, a tinted windshield, and Positraction.

Finished in the rare Laguna Blue (one of the less common factory colors, with just 7% of Sting Rays painted in this shade), the car retains its original blue vinyl interior. Additional factory options include dual-side exhaust, Positraction, transistorized ignition, and an AM/FM radio.

Beyond its performance and restoration pedigree, this Corvette has an incredible ownership history. It was once part of the Otis Chandler Collection, a prestigious gathering of American muscle cars. Later, it passed through the hands of Marc Andreessen, the founder of Netscape and Silicon Valley venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz.

This exceptionally documented, award-winning Corvette is now up for grabs—a rare opportunity for collectors looking to own a piece of American automotive history. It is offered with extensive documentation, including its NCRS awards, restoration photo book, and original sales contract.
