This 2006 Corvette Z06 is the first model produced at the Bowling Green assembly plant. Finished on February 4, 2005, this prototype has serial number 1G1YY22Y3650016EX, though it was not given a VIN number.

While it was being developed and during testing, Chevrolet went all out and tried it out on some of the major race tracks in Europe including the famed Nurburgring, Spa Francorchamps, Autobahn, and the Virginia International Raceway. It doesn’t hurt that it also set some pretty impressive records then.

On the Autobahn in June 2005, driver Tony Rifici hit the top speed on the Corvette Z06 prototype with speeds of more than 200 mph. In the same month, driver Patrick Herrmann averaged 198.6 mph as he drove on Papenberg, Germany going both directions. During the press show for the Z06, Jim Mero drove the example on test laps at Spa Francorchamps, Belgium during pre-screening.

Some of the notable features of this Z06 prototype is that it was equipped by Chevrolet to have the largest-displacement small block ever produced with a new 7.0-liter engine, it was code named LS7. The LS7 has a 7,000 RPM redline, which is the highest redline to be given a production pushrod V8 engine. Capable of producing 505 HP, at the time it was the most powerful naturally aspirated engine that General Motors have equipped a production car.

In 2008, the example was given an overhaul with a new engine, transmission, torque tube, and axle.

This Z06 Corvette prototype will come with its original paperwork and historical documents. It should be noted that the example is not certified to comply with any federal, state, or local laws, rules, and regulations. It cannot be driven on any public roads, and it will be sold on a Bill of Sale.

This 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 prototype coupe is Lot F97.2 and it is one of the featured lots in the upcoming Kissimmee 2023 that will be held from January 4 to 15, 2023, hosted by Mecum Auctions.
