Corvette Stingray: Biography of a Sports Car

So if you are like most Corvette enthusiasts/owners, you’ve probably shared more than a passing interest in how a Corvette is built.  Thousands of people flock to Bowling Green, Kentucky each year to visit the National Corvette Museum and, while there, make the short trek across the street to visit the Corvette Assembly Plant.  For the past couple of years, the plant tours have been suspended – in part due to COVID and in part due to the massive re-tooling that was needed to produce both the mid-engine Stingray and the new eighth-generation Z06.  However, with plant tours about to resume, we thought this an excellent opportunity to share a glimpse at the bygone era of Corvette manufacturing before it migrated to Bowling Green, and long before the opportunity to view the assembly of these amazing machines was available to the public.

The following video (which runs just under 20 minutes) was produced by General Motors in the early 1960s.  It chronicles the evolution of the second-generation Corvette Stingray from its preliminary design thru its transition into one of the most popular production model Corvettes ever built.  The video takes a look at how the design and engineering groups in Detroit created the Stingray as a successor to Harley Earl’s popular first-generation Corvette, and it introduces the viewer to some of the thousands of men and women who fabricated the chassis, the body, the interior, the engines and powertrains to create this iconic automobile.

So, without further adieu, we present to you “Corvette Stingray: Biography of a Sports Car.”  ENJOY!!
