Today, the 1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car continues to hold its value far better than most other Corvettes from that era. It’s not uncommon to see individuals, many of whom have probably dreamed of owning one of these beautiful machines for decades and pay a good price for the chance to own one of the most desirable Corvette Pace Cars in the brand’s 65+ year history.
Live now on Bring A Trailer is one of the one of the 6,502 examples of the 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition produced as a tribute when the Corvette was chosen as the official pace car of the 1978 Indianapolis 500. This is obviously as well-preserved Corvette and has only only 14k miles on its odometer!
As with all other examples, this Corvette Pace Car Edition is also finished in black over a silver metallic and featured a bright red pinstripe between the two-tone paint. It also features a special front and rear spoiler, both of which were designed to add a more dramatic appearance to the car, though neither offered much in the way of additional downforce.
The interior of the Corvette Pace Car was directly influenced by Bill Mitchell and featured either full silver leather or leather/gray cloth upholstery and gray carpeting. You can also find additional amenities inside such as leather-wrapped steering wheel, AM/FM eight-track stereo, cruise control, power windows, a tilting steering column, a rear window defogger, and air conditioning.
This special-edition Corvette is equipped with a 350ci L48 V8 was factory rated at 185 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the highest bid stands at $14,018 and the auction is going to close very soon, so don’t wait too long or you’ll lose this chance of owning one of the most iconic Corvettes of all time!
