The 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Special Edition
In June 2021, General Motors introduced the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, a special edition Corvette which commemorates the Corvette C8.R and its 2020 IMSA WeatherTech racing series championship. The car made its public debut at Belle Isle in Detroit. These special edition Corvettes were developed using styling cues from the Corvette C8.R race cars. They include an extensive list of aesthetic upgrades over the base model C8 Corvette and come in two distinct graphic packages: The No. 3 Edition, which features Accelerate Yellow paint with gray body graphics, and the No. r edition, which features Hypersonic Gray paint with yellow graphics.
In addition to the custom paint and graphics, each of the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition Corvettes (sometimes referred to as Corvette C8.R Special Edition) will come equipped with yellow brake calipers, Trident Alloy wheels with a black finish and Jake logo center caps, Carbon Flash exterior mirrors, black side rockers and splash guards. It will also come equipped with a large “C8.R” decal on its rear quarter panels just behind the doors. Likewise, the interior will feature several unique upgrades including Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray upholstery laid on top of standard GT2 seats, yellow seatbelts, and a unique C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque. Competition Sport Bucket seats are also available.
This Special Edition Corvette is targeted at customers who are fans of the Corvette Racing program, many of whom follow the team across the country, often flying out to each race to watch them in person. Corvette marketing director Harlan Charles explains, “A lot of our Corvette customers are huge Corvette Racing fans. This Corvette IMSA GTLM Special Edition is for them.”
Chevrolet is limiting this special edition Corvette to just 1,000 examples. It will be priced at $6,595 over the price of a 2022 Corvette 3LT. Each car will also come with a custom car cover done up with one of the C8.R liveries (much like the seventh-edition special-edition Corvette C7.R car cover from a few years back.) Customers can were able to order the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition Corvette (along with all other 2022 Corvette models) starting July 1st. If this special edition Corvette is like those offered in the past, they’ll be gone quickly, so order today! For anyone considering a 2022 Corvette, coupe prices start at $62,195 while the convertibles start at $69,695.
