Corvette Assembly Plant Will Shut Down Due to Parts Supply Issue

Mexico Supply Chain Disruption

Another Issue With Parts

It’s happened again. As of right now, production of the 2020 Corvette will halt on Thursday and Friday due to a disruption in the parts supply chain coming out of Mexico due to COVID-19 restrictions.

General Motors sent out an alert about the production stoppage which was reported on by The Detroit News (paywall for some articles) and others.

The alert stated that Mexico has updated its COVID-19 restrictions, which has hit suppliers in the country. The vendors that Chevrolet uses are not named in the release, but Corvette Blogger reports that parts of the wiring harness are made in Mexico.

The alert sent out by GM states the following:

“Due to a temporary parts supply issue, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not run production on Thursday, Nov. 12 or Friday, Nov. 13,” said GM spokesman David Barnas to The Detroit News. “We expect to resume normal operations on Monday, Nov. 16. Our supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production.”

This will likely push out the date for the plant to switch over to producing 2021 Corvettes. It will only push the date out a bit, though and 2021 production shouldn’t be too badly impacted. As GM updates the schedule, we’ll keep you informed.
