Three months ago, with the complete closedown of Holden in Australia, as well as GM pulling back from the market there, it seemed that the Corvette C8 might never see right-hand drive.
Then, days ago, Tim Robson, an editor at WhichCar.com.au, an Australian car enthusiast website, found a trademark filing for both a name and a logo.
The name? General Motors Special Vehicles (GMSV). And the logo? In the picture below.
What this means for GM fans in Australia is that the beloved moniker of HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) might not be entirely dead after all. While Holden cars may no longer be made, the fact that “Special Vehicles” is part of the filing means that GM might just be bringing the best of the best of their V8 powered cars over to the land down under.
And if you thought Americans loved their V8’s, Australians take that passion and supercharge it to nearly fanatical levels.
As well, another classic Australian name has been tied to GMSV, namely Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TMR) and, by extension, the Walkinshaw Group. TMR has been racing in the Australian V8 Supercars series for decades now, and the Walkinshaw Group was and is responsible for converting Camaro’s to right-hand drive.
Everything seems to be lining up for a 2021 launch of the right-hand drive Corvette C8!
I hope so! Wish we could get some info though. The Camaro conversion was poor and skyrocketed the price. Only interested in RHD from factory. Had the Camaro been rhd from factory, I’d have one.
