A Notable Boost In Power
Hennessey Performance is known for taking fast cars and making them go faster, and this time the tuner company got its hands on a C8 Corvette. The team then did some tweaking to the vehicle to get more power out of the C8’s V8. The guys at Hennessey put a twin-turbo setup on the engine to see how that would impact performance. They then put the car on the dyno to measure the results.
The C8 Corvette’s engine when not messed with makes 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Those are the official numbers if you have the Z51 performance package, which adds 5 hp and 5 lb-ft of torque extra. According to Hennessey Performance, its car was making 466 hp and 451 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.
With Hennessey’s twin-turbo setup, the car made 643 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. That’s an increase of 177 hp and 119 lb-ft of torque over the regular engine. It’s important to note that the twin-turbo setup on the car in the video below is still running the stock ECU tune. It would make sense that Hennessey could get a lot more out of the engine with an ECU update, too. Hennessey has plans for a few different C8 Corvette-related packages, including a range-topper that makes 1,200 hp. If that sounds crazy to you, that’s because it is. If you want to see the 643 hp car in action, check out the video below.
