Something Wonderful This Way Comes
Corvette enthusiast Jim Lill posted a video to Facebook and a photo that showed a camouflaged C8 Corvette with a widebody and an undeniably non-Stingray sound. The automotive community immediately pounced. This is the Z06 testing, and it looks and sounds glorious even with all the camo.
The rumor is that the car features the DOHC 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 that’s in the Corvette C8.R. The power will be up tremendously from the regular C8 Corvette Stingray. FIA rules state that the racing car’s engine has to be made in a street vehicle with at 300 models being made for homologation. That makes the Z06 nothing short of a racing car for the street.
In the video, which is not very long, you’ll get to see the Corvette come around a bend and then you hear the engine doing its thing. This is just a quick clip, but it’s clear that the engine is a flat-plane crank design from the sound. Kudos to Chevrolet for making this model happen. It could be even more impactful than the regular Stingray.
