It Looks Like Production Could be Delayed Further

The Bowling Green UAW Local 2164 has voted and the majority rejected the deal posed by General Motors. The voting tallied up to 56 percent against accepting the new deal and 44 percent voting to accept. As Corvette Blogger notes, this is nowhere near the 70 percent acceptance rate that Local 2164 President Jack Bowers has said that he expected.

However, the issue won’t be fully decided by the Bowling Green UAW chapter. Local 2164 is just one of the many different union groups around the country. According to the list, right now members of Local 1097 in Rochester, NY, have been the most vehemently opposed to the deal proposed by GM. Only 17 percent of the Local 1097 voted in favor of accepting the deal.

It’ll be interesting to see where this ends up. Right now, many GM plants are still waiting to hold their votes. As the tally currently stands more people have voted to accept the deal than not. With several plants having yet to weigh in, though, there’s no telling what will happen.

If the strike continues, it will further impact 2020 Corvette Stingray production. Production has already been stalled due to the strike and if GM and the UAW continue to fail to reach an agreement, delivery dates for customers will have to be pushed out further. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
