Reports Indicate it Could be That Way
The new C8 Corvette is a highly complex machine. Just how complex, we’ll have to wait until the July debut to find out. What we do know is that the car is one of the first to use the new electrical architecture that General Motors developed. According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, that new architecture and the C8 Corvette’s unique encrypted ECU system mean it will be hard to rework the engine. Adjust how much power and how it’s delivered won’t be easy.
The publication says it will be next to impossible to do. We have faith in the tuner community and not all of the details about the C8 Corvette are out yet. It would make sense that the system would be difficult to fiddle with. However, saying it’s impossible seems like a bit of an exaggeration.
Much of the difficulty stems from the new electrical architecture. The system features highly advanced security for the electronics and this makes meddling with Chevy’s creation a lot tougher. We’re not saying Chevrolet will offer a workaround any time soon, but we would expect the company to find a way to appease tuners at some point.
Aftermarket parts and accessories for Corvettes is big business, and Chevy may find it necessary to allow gung ho tuners to fiddle with the engine’s ECU eventually. It will be interesting to see what develops. Obviously more will become clear in July when the details are revealed officially.
