Hagerty Reports Three Issues Keep the C8 from Debuting

How Much Longer Must We Wait?

Unfortunately, the C8 Corvette may be farther away than we think. According to Hagerty, there are three issues with the upcoming car that continue to plague the car. These issues could push the release date for the vehicle back further. As you can imagine, Chevrolet wants to get the C8 mid-engine Corvette right, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they took their time getting to the heart of the issues.

Reportedly, Chevrolet is in the process reworking the electrical system in the car, but the new system is posing issues for engineers. They’re still working the bugs out right now. This comes as little surprise because previous rumors said the car was having electrical issues. It sounds like Chevy has a solution, but there’s still a lot of fine-tuning to do.

The second thing Hagerty points to is that the test cars are experiencing “structural distortion of the aluminum spaceframe.” The reason for this distortion? All the power that the new twin-turbo V8 puts out. Apparently, the top-of-the-line engine is so powerful that it’s actually distorting the structural integrity of the car. Hagerty suggests the engine makes between 900 and 1,000 hp. That could be a serious issue, indeed.

Hagerty lists a third issue with the Corvette, but it doesn’t say what it is. Basically, the publication doesn’t know. Its unnamed sources point to a topic of contention between the design team and development engineers. What that point of contention is, is unknown at this point.

All of this has pushed the debut date back and could push it back more if not addressed. With that said, Hagerty still thinks the car could debut at the National Corvette Museum’s 25th birthday celebration. That sounds good to us. Hopefully, Chevy can work the kinks out before that celebration comes in August if that is actually the date the car will debut.
