Victory Edition Corvette celebrates Le Mans success

To celebrate the success of the Corvette Racing program, especially at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race, Chevrolet made the decision to manufacture a limited number of special-edition Corvettes that would be sold exclusively in Europe. This special-edition car was limited to just 250 units and marketed to European consumers as the Victory Edition Corvette.

The Victory Edition Corvettes went on sale throughout Europe in March, 2007 It was based on the C6 Corvette, which in-turn shares a strong connection to the C6.R Corvette race car.  It came equipped with the LS2 6.0L V8 engine rated at 404 hp (297 kW) and 546 Nm of torque.  The car also came equipped with a six-speed manual transmission (standard), though an electronically controlled six-speed Paddle Shift automatic transmission was also offered as an option.

The car came finished in one of two distinct colors – Black and Velocity Yellow Tintcoat. A body-color wide rear spoiler was included as part of the package.  It also featured Competition Grey five-spoke aluminum wheels, 18-inch in the front and 19-inch in the rear.

Each Victory Edition Corvette came equipped with a number of features, including:
  • DVD Navigation System with touch screen and voice guidance.
  • Heated seats.
  • A heads-up display which included a G-force meter.
  • Auto-dimming inside rear view mirror.
  • A premium Bose 7-speaker sound system.
  • Memory Package with presets for two drivers that controlled the 6-way power drivers seat, exterior mirror and powered telescopic steering wheel.

Additionally, the Victory Edition Corvette offered its European owners (and fans of the brand) a somewhat more intangible feature that was not included in any of the marketing for the car.  It was an American-made sport car that had gained immense respect in Europe for being a five-time GT1 class winner at the 24 Hour of Le Mans between 2001 and 2006.  Where the Corvette was once considered a joke among European automotive purists, all 250 units of this C6 Corvette sold quickly throughout Europe – even with an asking price of  £51,285 ($68,251 in U.S. dollars).  When equipped with an automatic, it cost £53,685 ($71,445 in U.S. dollars).
