You Want Fast? The 2019 Corvette ZR1 Delivers!
The location? The Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) Track in Papenburg, Germany.
This ATP is renowned by automakers as one of the best testing grounds in the world to push their vehicles to the absolute limit.
To gain a full understanding of how a high-performance car will perform at top speed, manufacturers run their vehicles at the ATP in two directions – against the wind and with the wind.
Earlier this year, the team behind the all-new 2019 Corvette ZR1 took their super-car to the Automotive Testing Papenburg and pushed the car to its limits. Using the methodology described above, the team collected data (including top-speed) from each of the car’s two runs around the track. The average of those two runs is the ZR1’s top track speed.
Top Track Speed
On it’s first run, going with the wind, the car hit a top speed of 214.88 miles per hour. On its second run, this time against, the wind, the car hit a top speed of 210.20 miles per hour. The combined speed – and the offical track speed of the 2019 Corvette ZR1 – is 212 miles per hour!
At the heart of the new ZR1 is an all-new LT5 engine. This supercharged 6.2 liter beast produces 755 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 715 lb/ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. Mated to either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic, this powerplant outpowers anything that came before it.
However, the ZR1’s capabilities aren’t just about raw power. The car also features an extensive aero package that dramatically reduces lift, keeping the Corvette planted on the road – even when reaching speeds north of 200 miles per hour!
The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is actually computer-limited to a top-speed of 215 miles per hour due to the type of tires mounted on the car. If the limiter was disabled, and the car properly equipped with suitable tires, it is believed that the car could technically go beyond the 215 mph restriction.
Regardless, this video proves one thing – that the 2019 Corvette ZR1 is the fastest production Corvette in the history of the brand!
