The folks from The Fast Lane Car on YouTube lined up a classic 1968 Chevrolet Corvette, the very first of the C3 generation, against the 2020 Corvette C8, the first mid-engine ‘Vette in history. That’s 52 years of Corvette evolution in one head-to-head showdown.
The 1968 Corvette, finished in bright yellow, is about as old-school as it gets — a convertible with no roll protection, lap belts, and absolutely no airbags. It’s powered by a 5.4L (327ci) V8 making a claimed 300 horsepower, paired with a super rare 3-speed manual transmission.
On the other side, the 2020 C8 is a high-tech, mid-engine supercar killer. Its 6.2L LT2 V8 cranks out 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a lightning-quick dual-clutch automatic.
The first drag race wasn’t even close. The C8 rocketed to a 12.60-second quarter mile at 112 mph on an unprepped, mile-high surface. Meanwhile, the C3 crossed the line in 16.91 seconds, topping out around 115 mph. In the second race, they gave the ’68 Corvette a four-second head start but the C8 still cross the finish line first although it was very close.
