1985 Lola T711 Corvette GTP Racing Prototype Live On BaT

Chevrolet developed the Lola T711 as part of an effort to boost the Corvette brand’s visibility in motorsports. While its mid-engine layout differed from the front-engine design of the production Corvette, it shared styling elements with several General Motors concept cars, like the Corvette CERV II, Astro II XP-8800, and XP-895.

Power came from a Chevrolet-based stock block V8 engine, and the car was a showcase of 1980s racing technology, featuring a honeycomb aluminum monocoque chassis, Kevlar and carbon fiber body panels, a Hewland VGC five-speed gearbox, large side intakes, a central fuel cell, and BBS three-piece racing wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.

Built in 1985, this Lola T711 Corvette GTP is one of only seven prototypes created by Lola Cars Limited in collaboration with General Motors for the IMSA GT Championship, and one of just two built with a V8. Chassis T711-HU2 was the first Corvette GTP delivered, sold to Lew Price’s Lee Racing in Pennsylvania. It made its debut at the 1985 24 Hours of Daytona and continued racing through the 1985 season, scoring top-10 finishes at tracks like Miami, Watkins Glen, and Daytona, before competing in three more events in 1986.

Over the years, it changed hands several times, including ownership by Dennis Kazmerowski and later a historic racing enthusiast. In 2008, it was purchased by an Australian collector and restored by Damax Race Engineering in 2014, receiving a 427ci small-block Chevrolet V8 and a Hewland five-speed manual transaxle.

It has since participated in notable historic events including Le Mans Legend, Silverstone Classic, and Spa Classic. After being acquired by its current owner in 2024, it underwent a full mechanical overhaul and recently claimed a class win at the 2025 IMSA Classic at Daytona.

This race-ready Corvette GTP prototype is currently offered for sale on Bring a Trailer, accompanied by spare wheels, parts, memorabilia, and documentation.
