Classic Muscle Car DRAG RACE – Dodge vs. Chevy

For decades, the Dodge vs. Chevrolet rivalry has fueled some of the fiercest battles in American muscle car history. The 426 HEMI and the 427 big-block were two of the most feared engines of their time, and today, we get to see them go head-to-head in drag race video shared on Cars And Zebras YouTube channel.

First up, the 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T, still owned by its original buyer. Under the hood is the legendary 426 HEMI, specifically the solid-lifter version, a true high-performance beast. Factory ratings claimed 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, though real-world numbers were likely much higher. Originally running a 10.25:1 compression ratio, this Coronet has been pushed to an aggressive 11.75:1. Power is channeled through a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic to a set of 4.30 gears, significantly more aggressive than the stock 3.23s.

Facing off against it is a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette built for F.A.S.T. racing, meaning it looks stock but packs hidden upgrades. Under the hood is an L71 427 cubic-inch V8 with triple two-barrel carburetors and a solid-lifter cam. Rated at 435 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, its real output was likely higher. Paired with a Turbo 400 automatic and an upgraded rear end, it weighs about 3,439 pounds—lighter with aluminum heads.

On the strip, the Coronet ran a solid 10.97 seconds at 125 mph, but the Corvette was in another league, blasting down in 9.58 seconds at 141 mph.
