Barrett-Jackson: Base C6 Corvette Sells For $330,000 And Almost Breaks Facebook

Find out what made this base 2012 Corvette so special that it commanded a six-figure hammer price at Barrett-Jackson's 2025 Scottsdale auction

At first glance, you’d swear this six-figure Corvette was one of Barrett-Jackson’s infamous charity cars, where the proceeds go directly to one of the many charities the iconic collector cars auction partners with. The next suspicion and speculation that arises is that the alcohol was flowing in the special bidders’ area, but could there really be a bar big enough to catapult a base 1LT C6 Corvette into the stratosphere of a coveted collector Corvette? I haven’t seen my Facebook feed flooded with posts about a single auction Corvette since… ever–at least not a flurry like this. It was almost comical, watching one after another come into view as I scrolled through my feed during commercials. Surely, these must be dupes. They weren’t, and we have a few of the posts below so you can see the reactions for yourself.

But first, let’s meet this now infamous sixth-generation Corvette that has the internet buzzing. Then, maybe the answer for how this base C6 fetched $330,000 will be evident–or maybe it won’t.

The Summary From The Barrett-Jackson Listing

Powered by a 430hp 6.2-liter V8 engine mated to a 6-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Optional chrome aluminum wheels and transparent roof panel. 65 actual miles. From the David M. Ressler Collection.

Okay. So it’s “in the wrapper” with miles you’d expect on your Corvette after you drove it home from the dealership. That’s pretty cool, but $330,000 cool? There is no mention in the listing that the proceeds would go to charity. Perhaps it was the David M. Ressler connection? Here are some pictures before we find out more about David M. Ressler.

Who Is David M. Ressler?

This is directly from Barrett-Jackson’s website:

David M. Ressler is fondly remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering work ethic and deep passion for Corvettes. Starting as a school bus driver, he climbed the ranks of the automotive industry, eventually becoming a car salesman and later owning his first dealership. His relentless dedication saw him expand his business to multiple dealerships across Montana. Despite his success, Ressler never lost sight of the importance of giving back, remaining deeply involved in community outreach and charitable foundations throughout his life. Sadly, he passed away in November 2017 due to heart-related issues, but his legacy of kindness and community impact continues to inspire…”

Well, that’s a pretty touching story and legacy from a Corvette-loving enthusiast. Here’s a picture of the man who inspired fellow enthusiasts to fight for his 2012 Corvette. God bless you, David; your beloved Corvette broke all the normal records and had enthusiasts around the globe gasping.

Are you convinced now that $330,000 was a reasonable price? It hasn’t become evident for me, yet. Speaking of normal, here is just one value marker for a “normal” 2012 base 1LT C6. The MMR is the number the largest auction in the U.S. uses for dealer-to-dealer transactions.

The Final Verdict?

Although there was no mention in the listing that the proceeds would go to charity, at least one of the folks on Facebook declared it was a charity auction. If we find a full video of this 2012 Corvette coming across the block, we will confirm what charity was involved (if any).
