This 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible, offered by RM Sotheby’s at Arizona 2025 on January 24, 2025, is an impeccably restored example of American automotive excellence, estimated at $150,000 to $200,000.
Retaining its original chassis number and trim tags, it boasts an award-winning history, including the 2018 MCACN Triple Diamond Award, 2014 NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence, Top Flight and Performance Verification Awards, and Bloomington Gold certification in June 2014.
Delivered on May 25, 1964, to Fort Donelson Motor Company in Dover, Tennessee, the car is finished in its original Riverside Red with matching vinyl interior. Restored by previous owner Timothy Cookson, it has achieved near-perfect scores in national Corvette competitions, including 991 points at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals.
A detailed inspection by Corvette expert Roy Sinor in January 2024 confirms the originality of key components, including the chassis number, trim tags, and drivetrain. The engine, assembled in Flint in mid-April 1964, and the transmission, built on April 16, 1964, both feature VIN derivatives, while the 3.70 Positraction rear differential, dated January 17, 1964, is also believed to be original.
Although Bloomington Gold paperwork disclosed a new engine-block stamp that should have impacted the score, the car still achieved Gold certification due to an error in documentation, as clarified by a Bloomington Gold official. Accompanying the car are awards, judging sheets, and Sinor’s inspection report, which affirms the vehicle’s authenticity.
