Corvette Obsessed: My Top 10 Favorite CorvSport Features To Write For You In 2024

Join me for 5 minutes as I share with you my top 10 favorite features to write for our CorvSport readers in 2024! It was hard to choose!

I resolve to park like a warrior! Photo Credit: Reddit

As we jump into 2025 (where the heck did 2024 go?) and I approach 500 articles, I thought it would be fun to take a trip back in 2024 and recount my favorite features to write for you, our faithful CorvSport readers. I recently had a Corvette Forum acquaintance, whom I’ve bantered back and forth with for nearly 2 decades, contact me. At times he was a pain in the arse and a thorn in my side–a “forum nemesis.” In the private message, he indicated he’s been reading some of my CorvSport pieces and said, “Several are actually very good.” It was truly humbling to have someone who had been an adversarial social media acquaintance reach out to me to say, “Good job.” [Author’s Note: This article is FREE and not behind a paywall. If/when any popups occur, please click to make them disappear and continue enjoying the article.]

I didn’t want to push my luck and ask him what features were very good, so I don’t know if any of the ones I enjoyed writing for you are on his list. It’s an odd dynamic being a paid writer. I try to be entertaining, informative, and precise and act like I’m writing for thousands, hoping that just one person reads what I have to bring to our Corvsport community and finds it interesting. Again, a very humbling experience.

Now, without further ado, let’s look at my top 10 favorite features to write for you in 2024.

Poking some fun at the Mustang crowd

Published 3/18/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: Despite not being in the same vehicle category, there is still an underlying rivalry between the Corvette and Mustang. And once I dialed in on that dynamic, all bets were off!

Mustang And Camaro Ban Proves Corvette Owners Are More Mature

In total, four modern muscle cars were affected by this historic Coffee and Cars ban. Do you behave in your Vette?

Image credited to Supercar.fails via Instagram

If you are in certain circles on the internet, there’s no doubt you’ve seen at least one video of a Mustang (or similar muscle car) leaving a car show while attempting its own show of speed. These antics have become so viral that the accidents that result have created a whole new category of memes, with the Mustang earning the “crowd plow” title. On Wednesday, March 13th, news started breaking around the car community that Coffee & Cars had permanently banned not only Mustangs and Camaros from their Houston show, but also Challengers and Chargers.

Thankfully, at the time of publication, Corvettes were in the clear, which clearly indicates that their drivers are more mature! Currently, only the Houston, Texas Coffee & Cars have enacted the ban, and classic muscle cars have been spared the embarrassment of a ban. Despite only one location enacting the ban thus far, the Houston event has been dubbed as “one of the largest weekly automotive gatherings in the US,” so this is still kinda a big deal. The event coordinators had hoped a temporary ban, set back in November of 2023, would send the signal to enthusiasts, but the burnouts and exhibitions of speed continued, so here we are…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

Simply, OUCH!

Published 4/09/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: This poor guy lost one of his jewels and still kept his sense of humor, turning the tragic event into a tall glass of cool lemonade! I didn’t enjoy hearing about his loss, but the story was inspiring.

A Cojón For A Corvette: Man Proudly Proclaims “Worth It” After Loss

What’s the biggest sacrifice you had to make to get your dream Corvette? What would your custom plate say?

Would it be worth it for you?

We frequently hear stories about the sacrifices enthusiasts had to make in their lives to get that dream Corvette. Perhaps it was waiting until the kids go off to college, working two jobs (raises hand), or maybe you lived under your means for decades and saved up for when the time was right. There are many “traditional” ways we can think of, but one South Carolina man made lemonade when life and an elderly driver handed him some lemons.

In case your Spanish is rusty, a cojón–commonly known under the plural cojónes–are our jewels. I’m sure there is a tasteless joke in here somewhere, but I’ll leave it up to Reddit for the cracks, and there were many when user “Glaneon” recently posted about his ordeal on the popular social media site. Today’s Corvette Culture feature raises many questions, the most obvious of which is this.

Would it be worth it for you? The plate on “Glaneon’s” 2016 C7 Z51 Stingray…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

Bat meets Electron Blue Z06

Published 12/10/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: My favorite thing about this one was coming up with a creative headline, followed closely by reporting on the triggered enthusiasts who did not appreciate how the new owner took care of this beaten Z06.

Batsh!t Crazy: Z06 Corvette Resurfaces Online After Being Beaten By A Baseball Bat

Coined as the “insurance fraud Vette,” see the story of this bat-beaten Electron Blue Z06 and how the new owner triggered enthusiasts

When this Electron Blue Z06 recently surfaced on the popular Facebook Low Miles No Miles page, which has a whopping 309,000+ members, enthusiasts displayed a wide range of emotions. The story was so compelling I couldn’t resist taking a swing at bringing it to you, our faithful CorvSport readers. [Author’s Note: This article is FREE and not behind a paywall. I think I can speak for most of us avid enthusiasts that sometimes owning and inevitably trying to sell these old fifth-generation Corvettes can be frustrating. Anyone who has tried to sell a vehicle, especially a Corvette, can attest to the challenges, especially if you’re attempting to do so on a platform like Facebook marketplace or a Corvette-specific Facebook page.

Well, one C5 Z06 owner dealt with that frustration differently and, with the help of his Louisville Slugger, took matters into his own hands…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

An Amazing 100% Sales Ratio

Published 12/19/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: Since I developed this exclusive CorvSport series, it has always been interesting to cover and follow the Corvette wholesale market, highlighting newer generation sales at the largest dealer-only auction in the country. But, after I shifted from the Florida market to Texas, things started to really heat up, then hit a crescendo when this historic selection of classic Corvettes showed up at the Dallas wholesale auction.

Wholesale Corvette Market Report, Antique Edition: CorvSport Presents The Classics

This is a remarkable, historic collection of antique Corvettes running through the dealer-only wholesale auction; I’ll explain why

The amount our top seller fetched will blow your mind! Photo Credit: Manheim

Oftentimes, writers overuse superlatives to get clicks, but in today’s wholesale market report, we genuinely do have a historic and rare showing of classic antique Corvettes. Our award-winning list today is literally Mecum/Barrett-Jackson-level quality. In my 17 years as an owner/operator of a used-car dealership, I’ve been to well over 1000 dealer-only wholesale auctions. Under normal circumstances, I could go weeks without seeing a classic old vehicle at one of these auctions. Most of the vehicles we dealers used to sort through were trade-ins to large franchise dealerships–basic A to B cars. And that was a good thing. [Author’s Note: This article is FREE and not behind a paywall. If/when any popups occur, please click to make them disappear and continue enjoying the feature.]

Over those 17 years of weekly dealer-only wholesale auctions, I’ve never, ever seen a collection of Corvettes like we have today. This is a good time to explain why classic antique cars usually don’t appear at your typical dealer-only wholesale auction. They don’t perform well. As noted, most dealers go to the honey-hole for what most consumers need–basic A to B cars…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

Cheeky creativity tackles our worries and obsessions

Published 12/31/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: Anytime I can tap into some of my tongue-in-cheek creativity and it starts flowing easily (which can be rare), the result is a fun piece like this. While these resolutions weren’t meant to be serious, they can be.

CorvSport’s Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions For Corvette Owners Who Worry & Obsess

As 2024 wraps up, CorvSport takes a lighthearted look at the things we Corvette owners worry and obsess about and how we can overcome them!

I resolve to park like a warrior! Photo Credit: Redditt

This isn’t a piece on psychology, but over the 46 years as an avid enthusiast, I’ve definitely noticed a certain personality type that tends to attach to Corvette owners. It’s typically known as a type-A “OCD” personality, and for someone who is afflicted, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. As a matter of fact, I’ve come to embrace my “quirks.” But let’s be frank–while many of the attributes of this personality type are very helpful in life, some are downright annoying! Do you feel me? [Author’s Note: This article is FREE and not behind a paywall. If/when any popups occur, please click to make them disappear and continue enjoying the article.]

With another year in the rear-view mirror, the silly tradition is we are supposed to self-reflect and come up with a list of self-improvement ideas. But, for us car guys, that list usually extends to our Corvettes–things that must be done before it is “perfect.” Am I right? Maybe your exhaust isn’t loud enough, the paint could be shinier, or you need just one more mod before it’s fast enough. The list for you, I’m sure, goes on and on…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

A 15-year-old genius buys his first Corvette

Published 2/15/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: I don’t think anything pumps me up more than seeing the younger generation fall in love with the iconic Corvette, much like I did before I got my first in 1999. While this kid’s 70th Anniversary ‘Vette was cool, how he came to buy it at only 15 was amazing.

Meet The Genius Prodigy Inventor Who Took The Title For Youngest New C8 Owner

You won’t believe how young this kid is! Is this proof that a new Corvette is, in fact, a genius purchase?

The youngest brand-new Corvette owner in the country

It never fails to fascinate me when the younger generation falls in love with the iconic 71-year-old Corvette, even more so when they strive to own one in their teens. Perhaps some of this fascination is because I was a “late bloomer,” waiting until 31 to consummate my Corvette addiction with my first brand-new purchase.

CorvSport recently found and featured a 19-year-old who bought a brand new C8, and at the time, he was believed to be the youngest C8 owner in the country. That was until we stumbled upon Mike Wimmer on a popular Corvette Facebook page. When I confirmed his birthday, I had to do a double take and check the math. This remarkably talented engineer, who credits an iPad at 18 months old for igniting his fascination for technology, was born on March 11th, 2009. As the old saying goes, I have underwear older than him!…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

Where do they go?

Published 5/21/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: One of the cooler things about this job is getting “paid” to scroll through my Facebook feed, as there is always great material just around the corner. This feature epitomizes the gems I occasionally stumble upon.

Have You Ever Wondered What GM Does With Corvettes Damaged At The Plant?

CorvSport Reddit Exclusive: Insights and photos directly from the Ohio man who is contracted by GM to cut C8s in half

A never titled totaled C8/Photo credit: ClutchKickAutos55 via Reddit

Despite being an avid enthusiast for decades, I can’t recall ever reading anything about this type of program, so when an Ohio man contracted by GM recently posted the details on Reddit, I was hooked with curiosity. A cursory Google search titled “What does GM do with damaged Corvettes at the factory” mostly yielded a page full of articles from the infamous tornado that ripped through Bowling Green in late 2021, which, coincidentally, this Reddit member was involved in. There are so many questions, like for starters, why do these Corvettes have to be cut in half?!?…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

An amazing transformation

Published 10/17/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: Having an opportunity to meet this builder on the Corvette Forum, interview him, and then highlight one of his more notable builds was one of my fondest memories from 2024.

Meet The Build And Builder: See This 1954 Corvette Transform Into First-Time Bloomington Gold Winner

In part two, you’ll see the years-long restoration of this stunning Pennant Blue ’54 in CorvSport’s exclusive “Meet The Build And Builder” series

Watch the work it took to transform this 1954 Pennant Blue Corvette into a winner

I think nothing illustrates the love and spirit an enthusiast has for our beloved Corvette better than one who turns a passion into a purpose. Early on, Chris Sherman nurtured this passion, one that I referred to in part one as being “born into a love affair.” [Author’s Note: This article is free and not behind a paywall. If/when any popups occur, simply click to make them disappear and continue enjoying the restoration.] Here is a quick glimpse from part one, where we got to know Chris a bit better. 1,064 reasons to be amazed

Published 7/25/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: 2024 was an exciting time to be an enthusiast, and nothing encapsulated that more than the hype up to and the reveal of the 2025 ZR1. We’ve used many superlatives to describe it, but my managing editor’s “tarmac-tearing” is still my favorite.

The 1,064 HP 2025 Corvette ZR1 Is Revealed! CorvSport Covers The Key Details

CorvSport reports on everything you need to know from the reveal of the 2025 ZR1, including the resurrection of the Split Window design!

The 2025 Corvette ZR1 has been revealed!

Greetings, CorvSport readers, and welcome to our special reveal guide for the highly anticipated 2025 Corvette ZR1! If you’ve been anywhere near social media today, 7.25.2024, you’ve probably already seen some of the specifications and photos, which were accidentally leaked 12 hours before the official reveal (our breaking feature is here).

The madness and hype surrounding this remarkable creation from GM started about the time Car and Driver published this cover earlier last year. Here it is again below, in case you missed it. It’s almost surreal that we enthusiasts have finally reached the reveal; it’s been a long couple of years as the anticipation and a flurry of speculation and rumors have built to a fever pitch.

Now, instead of bloviating more, let’s dive into our action-packed 2025 Corvette ZR1 guide!…” Continue Reading or Save For Later

Meeting and interviewing a top restorer

Published 9/20/2024

Why I enjoyed writing this: When I was in a pinch, Chris Sherman helped me out and then invited me into his world for an exclusive interview. It will be a while before I have another experience like this one.

CorvSport 1 on 1 With Builder Who Transformed ’54 Corvette Into 1st Time Bloomington Gold Winner

In part one, you’ll meet the builder behind the years-long restoration of this stunning Pennant Blue ’54 in our exclusive “Meet The Build And Builder” series

How the 1954 Pennant Blue Corvette looked before Chris Sherman worked his magic

How I found and came to eventually talk to Chris Sherman from TiN Restorations epitomizes the spirit and love he has for our Corvette. Recently, I was in a pickle and needed publishable pictures of a beautiful Pennant Blue 1954 Corvette I saw on Facebook during this year’s Bloomington Gold event. After doing a search on the Corvette Forum, I found a post from Chris and reached out to him through a private message. He promptly replied with a simple message, “Give me a call,” and I did. It was that personal and helpful nature that has earned him an admirable reputation in our Corvette community.

Chris was eager to not only help me with the pictures but also offered up his precious time to chat with me personally. Located in Plano, Illinois, a quaint town just southwest of Chicago, Chris specializes in restoring 1953-1962 Corvettes to NCRS and Bloomington Gold standards. He was so excited to share the details of his creation, which had just earned its first prestigious award, the coveted Blooming Gold. He is genuinely old school, and the story of how he got sucked into the Corvette vortex was almost as interesting as his passion for transforming tired old Corvettes into cherished memories.

In part one, we’ll get into the head of somebody who is driven to restore these old classics and what lit the passion within Chris. As an NCRS judge, you’ll also get Chris’s first-hand perspective on the judging process. Let’s meet ChrisContinue Reading or Save For Later
