When the eighth-generation Corvette Stingray launched in 2020, it made history as the first mid-engine Corvette, realizing the long-time vision of Zora Arkus-Duntov, the original chief Corvette engineer.
Despite having less power than the previous 755-hp 2019 Corvette ZR1, the 2020 Stingray, with 495 horsepower accelerated faster from 0 to 60 mph and nearly matching the ZR1’s quarter-mile performance. Its exceptional handling and braking further solidified the new Corvette’s status as a world-class sports car with few rivals.
Sam CarLegion on YouTube demonstrated the C8 Corvette’s prowess in a recent video against a 2024 Mercedes AMG CLE 53 and a 2024 BMW M440i in a series of drag races. These cars have surprisingly priced as close to each other.
The 2023 Corvette C8 features a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. It’s rear-wheel drive and the lightest here at 3,647 lbs, though it’s got a few mods—exhaust, headers, and a lowered suspension.
The Mercedes CLE 53 AMG packs a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a mild hybrid system, pushing out 443 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. It’s got a 9-speed automatic transmission and is the heaviest at 4,400 lbs. Finally, the 2024 BMW M440i xDrive comes in with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six, delivering 382 horsepower and 364 lb-ft of torque. It’s also all-wheel drive, weighing in at 3,960 lbs.
