In this video, we get to witness an epic drag race between two iconic American cars: a C4 Corvette and a Dodge Viper.
The C4 Corvette featured in the video from TFLclassics comes equipped with an L98 V8 engine producing 245 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque. While those numbers might not turn heads in today’s performance world, in its time, the C4 was no slouch.
The Viper featured in the race is a first-gen example and is powered by an 8-liter V10 that cranks out 400 horsepower. A true “Corvette killer,” this Viper is a no-nonsense sports car designed for raw performance.
As expected, the Viper’s V10 launches it ahead with sheer power. But while the Viper may have dominated the quarter-mile in a 14.9-second run at just over 100 mph, the C4 Corvette managed a respectable 15.8 seconds at 91 mph. Sure, the Viper is quicker, but the C4 keeps pace remarkably well for a car that’s a full six years older and nearly 200 horsepower shy.
