FOR SALE: 1956 Chevrolet Corvette 265/240

One of only 111 equipped with a factory high-lift camshaft

The 1956 model year marked a significant evolution for the Corvette. While the 1955 introduction of the V8 engine improved its performance, it still lacked features desired by American consumers. Chevrolet addressed this in 1956 with a comprehensive redesign by Bob Cadaret.

The new body showcased chrome accents, distinctive side coves inspired by Cadillac’s 1955 Motorama LaSalle II, enabling striking two-tone paint options. Upgrades included glass roll-up side windows, a reworked convertible top, and external door handles.

Available options featured a signal-seeking partially transistorized Delco radio, 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, power windows, a power convertible top, and a removable hardtop. The 265 CI V8 engine offered 210 to 240 HP, paired with either a 3-speed manual or the Powerglide automatic.

This particular 1956 Chevrolet Corvette underwent a meticulous seven-year restoration in the 2000s, earning prestigious accolades such as the NCRS-Duntov Mark of Excellence Award, NCRS Performance Verification Award, Bloomington Gold Certification in 2010, and multiple NCRS Top Flight awards.

Finished in Onyx Black with matching coves and a red interior, it is one of only 111 equipped with a factory high-lift camshaft and is now offered for sale on Bring A Trailer along with its awards documentation, service manuals, and a clean title.

Notable features include dual four-barrel carburetors, a 3.70:1 rear axle, a body-color removable hardtop, black soft top, and 15″ steel wheels with knock-off spinner covers. Powered by a 265 CI V8 engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, this Corvette is reported to produce 240 horsepower with the special high-lift camshaft, making it a prized find for C1 enthusiasts seeking an authentic vintage model.
