Just before the weekend, a Minnesota Chevrolet dealer decided to get aggressive on not one but two of the 2024 C8s they had in inventory. Surprisingly, at the time of publication, these two Corvettes were the only two C8s they had on their lot, and both were recently posted on a popular Facebook page for $10,000 off MSRP!
What makes this so remarkable? Well, if you’re a Corvette junkie like myself, you may have noticed the bizarre Corvette pricing and demand that began to creep into the market at the beginning of 2020, what I dubbed as the “Covid Phenomenon.” In short, a perfect storm occurred, with the revolutionary C8 creating unprecedented demand, in concert with lots of money being pumped into the system (leading to increased discretionary spending on toys), topped off with supply chain issues, which got so bad production for the C8 was halted. Our own Scott Kolecki did a story on that in 2021.
The insanity in the Corvette market hit its apex in 2023 when GM felt compelled to initiate an anti-flipping policy for the C8 Z06. The policy, detailed here, did nothing to curtail Chevy dealerships from tacking on large markups and only truly hurt the second buyer if the first flipped their Z06 before the six-month period was up. The market finally started settling down through middle to late 2023, and now, with these latest $10,000 discounts, we have officially reached some level of normalcy. Both of these deals are already showing pending, so if you are shopping (and on Facebook), the page you want to be on is C8 Corvettes at ≤ MSRP.
